Abdullah Alqaseer

Abdullah Alqaseer has been working as a journalist since 2006. He published ‘Dar Noon Verlag’ (United Arab Emirates), his first collection of short stories, “Naked Woman in Damascus,” in 2015. The short stories describe, often with bitter humor, how cruel and absurd the lives of Syrians have been since the beginning of the armed conflict. One of these short stories, “The Executioner Who Needs Blood,” was published in Fall 2017 in the magazine INAMO. Abdullah left Syria in 2015 and settled in Turkey for a year, then fled to Germany and now lives with his family in Halle Saale. He remains a writer in exile and continues to write short stories depicting the difficult lives of people in Syria and Asylum (one of those short stories, written in Germany, ‘Yasmin’s Broken Statue,’ is available in German). His last novel, ‘Used Nightmares,’ was published by Fadaat Verlag (Jordan) in 2017 and 2018. The novel is being translated into the English and German languages. Abdullah started a theater for immigrant children in Germany. He wrote and directed three plays for children: “The First Day,” “An Offline Kingdom,” and “Parentsgarten.” For the last three years, he has collaborated and written a TV series called “Guerrilla Theater” screenplay. An adaptation for a film version is ongoing in the English language. In 2022, Abdullah wrote and directed “Adnan,” a short film against stereotypes. It has been submitted to festivals.

Moutaz Kotrob

Moutaz’s career has been guided by two distinct but complementary disciplines, from the precision of dental surgery to the art of cinematic storytelling. Although I began my professional career with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), my enduring passion for visual narrative motivated me to pursue formal education at the Brooks Institute of Photography, where I obtained a B.A. in Film & Video Production, Cum Laude.  My approach to filmmaking is now informed by the discipline and meticulous detail required in my medical practice, which enables me to direct and construct stories with a profound understanding of the human element, clarity, and depth. I am currently a full-time filmmaker who is enthusiastic about the realization of creative visions. I am actively pursuing opportunities to direct and produce visually impactful content.

Moutaz wrote and directed three short films, including Honor (2010), City of Masks (2013), The Book of Silence (2015), and CTRL+Life (2020). His debut feature film, Pater Noster (2025), will have a wide release in early 2026.

He collaborated with partners to create the television series “Guerrilla Theater” (2020) and is currently writing the film adaptation. Moutaz translated Abdullah Alqaseer’s novel into English and adapted it for a feature drama film titled “Used Nightmare”. Both of these works address the human toll during civil wars. They carry powerful anti-war themes through the eyes of ordinary people. He is also working on a science fiction drama titled “Hemoglobin.” The story takes place in a “reverse Avatar” world that incorporates the Children of Men (2006) storyline theme.
